Thank God Bryan Adams came before Mp3

As I add the best work of the man for the last 30 odd years to my playlist I couldn't help but wonder how he influenced my taste in music. So Far So Good was the first album I heard of him when I was in class 6.I didn't know it was a compilation album, little did I know what a compilation album was.It was a cassette in a hard white plastic cover and I played it over and over again in our old BPL Sanyo Tape recorder(it still works like a gem).I loved the songs,I loved them all. There were no lyrics page with the cassette and we didn't have internet to check them out,but I knew all the songs by heart. It was my transition form Pop to Rock.My transition from Boney M,ABBA and Savage Garden to Pink Floyd and the rest of the brotherhood.I loved all the songs from all the albums of these great artists. And this happens automatically when you buy a cassette or a CD.Since it costs a bit,you hear it for sometime, till you can again afford to buy another one.And in the meantime you concentrate on that single album. You get time to appreciate it,love it,enjoy it.But it is hardly the case now.We have the power of internet and the power of torrent at our disposal. We can download whatever we want whenever we want.I bet only few of us buy cassettes and CDs this days.Even if I can I feel its just unnecessary as I can simply download the album and it would be as good as buying one, minus the cost. But somewhere in between the value for music silently goes down.We google for their best albums and the best songs and little do we care about the rest.We move from one artist to the other without really appreciating any of their work.We are driven by the content of our hard disk.Few days back i was listening to the best of Who,The Who is considered one of the best of the best in their genre but I just dismissed some of their songs as if they were some wannabe rock band from the 70s.A sense of loss,a loss of love for music. The only good thing that I can think of is that the value of the old songs that you loved once increases many-fold.So as I enjoy Cuts like a knife which is one of my most favorite I thank god that Bryan Adams came before Mp3 did.
